A Culinary Haven in Serendra: Mamou
K: Being a total meat lover, I always ask my friends to recommend good steak places. Most of my favorites are either in hotels or too far, and I really want to have a favorite steak place in the city. After getting several recommendations, we had dinner in Mamou in Serendra, and it was a night that my taste buds will always remember.
The restaurant is a haven in the middle of the city -with a warm ambiance and a very comfy feel- perfect for a quiet family dinner, an anniversary date, a family celebration or to impress that girl on the first date. Mamou’s dishes are inspired by the restaurateur’s family cooking, travels and kitchen experiments. The menu boasts a variety of dishes from Filipino, Italian, American, Asian and more, all of them with that homey feel.

Truffle flavoured vegetable mushroom dip with whole wheat melba chips 195
K: One of Mamou’s vegetarian options, this appetizer is something that even picky kids will enjoy. Layered with the richness of the cream cheese and flavor of the truffle, this seemingly simple appetizer will tickle your senses and set the mood for a sumptuous meal.

Steak (Solo 400g, Twin 800g) 1680/2800
comes with two sides, choice ofsteak rice (white or red), corn pudding, baked mashed potatoes, creamed spinach
K: Every Mamou virgin needs to order one dish: the steak. Good to share with a friend or two (twin), you can order it with different levels of “doneness” (ie, half is medium, half is medium well). Personally, I like mine a little bloody, and the Mamou steak is one of the best I’ve ever tasted. It might not look very appetizing when first served, already sliced up and looking a bit burnt. But do not be fooled, each bite is juicier and tastier than the last. It is served with steak sauce, but it is better to eat it without the sauce for a bolder, more fundamental taste
P: When I shared with K the steak, I got the other half (medium well side). Upon taking my first bite…it was undeniably oozing with deep real steak flavor – mark of an excellent quality of meat. K and I got the fortunate experience of trying all of the side dishes on the menu, and I must say, my favorite is the oh-so-creamy and home-ish Baked Mashed Potato. It undoubtedly complemented every steak bite I took. This definitely is at the top choice of must try steak on my list!
K: I totally agree with P, the mashed potato is definitely delish! Another favorite is the corn pudding, a smooth and tasty side, with a sweet and salty flavor that goes well with the steak. They also have complimentary warm sourdough bread served with butter that stays soft even until the end of the meal. I can actually just eat the bread for a light dinner and already be very satisfied!

P: Our meal couldn’t have ended any better than having a taste of Mamou’s Key Lime Pie and Pecan Pie. I immediately took a slice of the Pecan pie because of its inviting-indulgent look. True enough, the rich base of the soft pie and the slight crunch of pecans went best with whipped cream.
K: The Key Lime Pie on the other hand was a refreshing finish to everything. The right sweet-sour flavor of the soft pie and the moist, crumbly base was like heaven in my mouth. I couldn’t help but finish it all and unfortunately didn’t leave any for P. Another order please!

K: And of course, to enjoy the meal even more, I had it with a big glass of frozen mojito, refreshingly minty with every sip. Also available in Mamou are select beers, house iced tea, bloody Mamou (their version of the Bloody Mary) and wines.
P: Our total Mamou experience did not only comprise of the excellent food that we’ve tasted but also the very accommodating service given by the whole staff. It truly was like being a guest in a cozy house in the middle of Serendra.
