K: Gas station fare is usually typical fastfood. When I saw Sicilian Express in Petron Katipunan, I was immediately interested and wanted to try it out. The store has a cozy feel that reminds me of college hang outs, hours of studying and talking with blockmates. However, it seems to have better food than the usual tambayan places and more options too.

Carbonara

P: Sicilian’s Carbonara is not your conventional very sauce-ish pasta. Nonetheless, every bite guarantees you impact full of flavor. You will immediately notice the generous slices of bacon that tops off the pasta, moreover, this gives that distinctive smoked taste to the dish.

Chicken Alfredo

K: The Chicken Alfredo pasta has a very creamy, rich taste. The thick sauce liberally mixed with parmesan cheese goes well with the chicken and mushroom chunks. It is, indeed, classic Chicken Alfredo. It also goes very well with the Sicilian Focaccia that’s crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside- with subtle herb flavors, I can eat several pieces on its own!

Shrimp and Mango

P: The pasta came in with a festive look of the shrimps, mangoes, basil and faint red sauce. Not only does this dish carry a cheerful look but it also is packed with a play of different flavors. The nice deep herby tomato–cream sauce taste blends well with the refreshing mango bits into the pasta.

Pepperoni and Italian

K: Whenever I crave for pizza, it’s usually for a thin crust pepperoni or Italian sausage. The crunchy-chewy taste of Sicilian’s crust (made with the same dough as the focaccia), the melted mozzarella cheese, Italian spice and the flavorful meat toppings of the pepperoni and Italian pizza will definitely satisfy any craving!

Pizza Blanca

P: Pizza Blanca would definitely be your choice if you want to try something different and veer away from the stereotypical red sauce pizza. This pizza has the perfect balance of the garlic and pesto taste throughout. Surprisingly, being pesto pizza, this one is not particularly oily… which was great! If it’s your first time to try something new, I don’t think you’d go wrong with this one.

K: Although I love trying out new restaurants, I usually order the classic dishes. In my opinion, a pizza place that can offer good carbonara and pepperoni pizza is a place that is worth visiting again. Sicilian Express definitely delivered, and I look forward to trying out its other flavors – it’s only a phone call away!
