What other way to get through a late morning than to spend a late sweet morning with 3 cakes from Karen Young of Karen’s Kitchen. Most of you who are up to date with yummy desserts must have already heard of the Karen’s Kitchen Chocolate Ganache and Red Velvet Cake. These two cakes being her best sellers need not be reviewed anymore.  However, if you haven’t tried these divine creations yet, please do so.  You wouldn’t know what you’re missing ‘til you’ve tasted these.

Duchess Apple Pie

This apple pie definitely has a character of its own. The distinct meringue crust layered with cinnamon blend, salted butter caramel and cream let’s you savor the contrasting flavors of the pie with every bite. While the cream and crust gave the indulgent depth; the apple slices that topped the pie gave the right sweetness and semi-crunch texture. It was definitely made to fill your craving for a comfy apple pie experience.

Carrot Cream Cheese Cake

I for one am sincerely not a fan of carrot cakes in general.  I’ve always found the concept of a carrot turned into a cake quite weird. Then again, since this was a version done by Karen’s Kitchen I did not think twice of trying it out. After trying a teaspoon… I found myself getting more and finishing a whole slice!

The cake was compact with raisins and walnuts, moist with cream cheese – a perfect combination. The fruity bits, nutty and moist texture gave the cake a new dimension flavor-wise. This is such a perfect way to present a Carrot Cake to a first-timer.

Sticky Toffee Pudding

Don’t be deceived by the initial look being inside the foil, as this holds much pleasure to your sweet appetite. This pudding, served warm and with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side is simply heavenly; just a quick 10 or 20 seconds in the microwave and you’re all set. The dripping-to-the-side toffee topping, moist pudding, and date chunks gave a great combination of a very homey and indulgent treat.

My friend and I felt a bit too spoiled after eating all those luscious cakes. Well, when it comes to Karen’s Kitchen cakes we certainly can’t expect less. Tasting her other desserts have proven that Karen’s recipes were really made to perfection. If true quality dessert is what you are in search of, you can never go wrong with Karen’s Kitchen.

*Just an added delight, aside from the printed note at the lower corner of each cake box, Karen also randomly inserts a small pink piece of paper with a Bible verse in all of these boxes. =)
