Sansrival from Gay’s Kitchen

Posted on: 05/07/2010

My mom used to tell me to always save room for dessert. This particular advice has stuck with me through the years, and thus I often find myself in the middle of a great meal asking what’s for dessert. It can also quite spectacularly turn an average meal into a memorable celebration. It need not be anything fancy, just good enough to make everyone have big smiles upon leaving the table.

Thus, when I heard of a good sansrival baker hidden in Valle Verde 6, my curiosity was instantly piqued. My very picky friend was raving about it, so I figured I should visit Ms. Gay Vasquez and give her sansrival a try. Admittedly, I am not a fan of sansrival, most that I have tried are too sweet that I cannot eat more than a few bites. However, a slice of Gay’s sans rival was enough to convert me from cheesecake fanatic into a sansrival fan. In fact, I had more than just one slice!

Let me drill it down to specifics. I have three criteria when it comes to what is a good dessert. First, it should be just the right sweetness- enough to complement the meal but not too much to completely wash out the previous meal, or worse give me a headache. Gay’s sans rival was just the right sweetness and her very creamy frosting kept me wanting to go back for more. There fits in the second criterion- it should be light enough to eat even after a full lunch or dinner. And her sansrival definitely was light enough for me to eat two big slices even after a lunch of mashed potato and chicken fingers! Lastly, a great dessert for me is one that can stand on its own. Here, Gay’s san rival definitely stands out. The crispiness of the wafer and the smooth creaminess of the frosting sing harmonies in my tongue. But what rounds it all up are the whole macadamia nuts on top. She is generous with her ingredients- each bite is perfect with the three flavors.

And to make it even more perfect? The sansrival is available anytime! Just ring her up before dropping by to pick it up, which is a perfect gift, or a perfect ending to what can be a magical meal.
